PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

Coming to Chapel Hill, I quickly realized that the pre-health journey is not one that can be navigated alone. While coursework, applications, and professional development are important parts of the process, I learned that growth often comes from the people around us. Since joining AED in the Fall of 2023, I’ve been deeply grateful for the support, mentorship, and community I’ve found here. AED has helped me grow not just as a student, but as a leader and aspiring healthcare provider.

Healthcare itself reflects this same idea. A patient’s care is never dependent upon one individual, but rather on the collaboration of many people working together toward a common goal. AED embodies this mindset. Although our members come from different backgrounds, experiences, and healthcare interests, we are united by a shared commitment to serving others and improving the lives of patients and communities.

One of the qualities that makes AED so meaningful to me is our culture of mentorship. Every member enters AED at a different stage in their journey, and many of us are where we are today because someone took the time to answer our questions, share advice, and invest in our growth. That support creates a cycle that extends far beyond one class year. We have all benefited from mentorship, and we now have the opportunity and responsibility to provide that same guidance for those who follow us.

Through our three pillars, Academics, Service, and Social, we strive to foster an environment where members can grow not only as future healthcare professionals, but also as leaders, advocates, and lifelong learners. Whether through professional development opportunities, service initiatives, meaningful friendships, or conversations with mentors and peers, our goal is to create an experience that supports every aspect of your journey.

On behalf of our executive board and members, I am honored to serve as President and continue building upon the strong foundation of AED. I invite you to explore our organization, get to know us and our values, and take full advantage of the opportunities that AED has to offer.
